I’m somewhat of a Wilson skeptic (but the fan in me has talked me into the idea since his pro day). However, it is certainly refreshing to finally have confidence in a coach and GM on the same page with a plan to build around him along w/ a scheme that accentuates his strengths

Draft picks are just dry powder. Idzik taught us that simply having a ton of picks means nothing if you don’t convert them into impact players It’s about optimizing resources If the Jets traded up for a projected 5-10 year starter to protect their young QB, it’s a no brainer

Free-agent QB Brian Hoyer is visiting the #Jets today, source confirms (as @RapSheet said). Hoyer, 35, knows the offense. Started 6 games for the 49ers in 2017 (0-6). Saleh and LaFleur on that staff. Jets need veteran presence in the QB room.

@johnfinn66 @kreativekonnect My take: No GM bats .1000. It’s low hurdle but he’s much more adept at running a team than his predecessors. If you fire him if things go poorly this year and he’s the scapegoat, who are you bringing in who is better? Several top candidates in recent years weren’t interested

I think the jury is still out on Joe Douglas. There has been some good (trades, decent early returns on 20 draft). Some not so good (some poor FA pickups, letting RA walk, etc.) But any talk of him being on the hot seat right now is just too premature.

I am admittedly a Wilson skeptic who preferred Darnold’s fresh start here under LaFluer in an O that plays to his strengths while optimizing draft capital. But there is definitely something to be said for finally having GM, coach, and QB all on aligned & on the same timeline.

Jets had 12 picks in 2014... None of them other than Enunwa arguably had much of a career. Need to convert the picks into productive players.

Over the next two drafts, no team owns more Day 1 and 2 picks than the Jets, who now have 5 in each of 2021 and 2022.

Well, it hurts but it’s a better return than I was expecting. Would not be surprised to see Sam Darnold develop into the QB we thought he could be under Joe Brady and with McCaffrey and old buddy Robby A. We root for laundry, as Jerry Seinfeld once said. Onto the next one.

John Idzik was no Joe Douglas, but he also sought to build through the draft and supplement the roster with reasonable FA contracts. Need to turn all that dry powder into productive players at some point. Can’t whiff on the picks.

Jets have made it clear that they’re starting over. Woody Johnson is back for a re-boot. Robert Saleh has a lot of promise. NYJ has banked a lot of draft picks, which is nice as long as you make the right picks. Otherwise, they will be rebuilding again in a few years.

Joe Douglas is adding talent from the 2016-2017 draft classes... which somewhat helps in cleaning up the mess left by his predecessor. Out of those two draft classes, only Marcus Maye remains.
