Fair competition on iOS and Android requires that it be just as easy to find, install, and use an app from the web or a third party store than from the built-in store: as simple as searching the web and clicking a button to install the app directly or through its store.
And it must be just as easy to make a payment in an app through a third-party payment service as through the built-in payment service. Apple and Google mustn’t get away with abusing gatekeeper power to disadvantage, control or tax competing stores or payment services.
@TimSweeneyEpic Tim, listen up. I DONT WANT IT I purchased my iPhone on the understanding that I would only have access to a curated subset of possible apps available from Apples store. It is a compromise I have chosen. What you propose I DO NOT WANT.
@TimSweeneyEpic In other words, you want them to open the flood gates on non-technical peoples devices to install malware without anyone vetting the installer? Because that works well on Windows, FML.
The team at Epic could lead the way to establishing fair commercial practices within the digital IP market by allowing your customers to freely trade the skins that are purchased in Fortnite. Digital property rights are enforceable at this point, if you are calling for Apple to bypass their strict control over their customers and the revenue gained, wouldn’t it be fair to ask the same of your organization?
@TimSweeneyEpic Any gamer who has been witnessed epic game store vs Steam would have 0 faith in Epic. They are just trying to make developers happy by ruining their customers’ experience
@TimSweeneyEpic So I know you have thought about it deeply. What stars would have to align to create a truly open phone platform?
@TimSweeneyEpic Users are not smart or cautious enough for it to be that simple. While this sounds great in a perfect world, this is a perfect example of how malware and worst will be downloaded and installed with simplicity.
