This actually happened multiple times, and one mom even refused to join in for the hug because "I already got a hug, I can't get another", even though her kid, almost crying, requested she join in multiple times. TLDR: crossing your kid's boundaries on purpose is not cool. Stop.
As someone who goes to conventions in cosplay and with a "Free Hugs" sign... If you are a parent and your kid is clearly too shy or uncomfortable to hug me, please respect their boundaries. Don't complain to them when they say they don't want to and force them to do it anyway.
