My lifelong experience dates to early 1970s & United Methodism has been remarkably consistent: mostly right of center passive laity, mostly left of center clergy, far left national church bureaucracy.

@jcamp_over_day @WeepingFrog @markdtooley @TheIRD The UMC is the church I grew up in as a late baby boomer. In the 60s & 70s it was a church of social justice & ACTION. In the later 80s/90s it was overrun with those who'd rather talk about "wrath" than love. That's when we took a wrong turn. Glad to see it righting itself again.

Yup, this United Methodist General Conference is almost certainly last Mainline Protestant convention meriting media attention. Southern Baptist Convention will be only denominational event of note, & probably not for very many more years.
