How do you make a meme stick? A few honest thoughts on $BUY. Volume picks up, things get lively, then it goes quiet again. Some of that activity includes our treasury buybacks. I’m not going to dress our own buying up as everyone else arriving. We’ve put thousands into professional video and artwork, built the site, Buttonize, the rewards system and the live tracker. Done NOXA contract verification work. Bought BUY back. Spent a ridiculous amount of time on X trying to get the thing in front of people. We’re still doing the work, checking what lands and what doesn’t. But the market doesn’t owe us anything for finishing a checklist. I get the appeal of $Cashcat and $Juggernaut. Recognisable characters, something people can immediately get behind. BUY feels just as straightforward to me: five years ago they turned off the buy button. Now we’ve made it a meme on Robinhood Chain. That’s a good story. Apparently a good story and a market cap are two different things. There’s a trader market and a believer market, sometimes inside the same person. Most people want the price to go higher. Fair enough. But someone can love the meme without buying it, or buy it without caring about the meme at all. And distribution matters. Connections matter. A loud timeline doesn’t tell you how many independent people are behind it. I don’t want to confuse the appearance of a community with actually having one. The part I keep coming back to is this: we can commission another video, but we can’t commission someone genuinely wanting to send it to their mate. Maybe that’s the missing piece. More people finding something of their own in the Button. Their joke, their reaction, their ridiculous picture. Something they’d share even if they didn’t hold BUY. I’m also less convinced that age automatically kills a meme. The same punchline wears out. A familiar character can keep getting into new situations. The 2021 story explains where the Button came from but there's still a whole story to tell for what's coming next. The real flex would be a joke we didn’t have to commission. $17,000 from the treasury has already gone into BUY buybacks. We are, as of this post, using the remaining $16,000 of TREASURY funds for buybacks, then wind down the treasury strategy. Maybe the solution is to let $BUY be just a meme. Something people understand immediately, make their own jokes with, and share without needing a presentation first. For now, we’ll continue building around that. Trying things, seeing what sticks, and making room for other people to surprise us. The buy button is back. That’s all we need. Still on. 🟢
