Isn’t it weird how unsubsidized consumer goods like TVs, appliances, clothes, all get cheaper and cheaper…while anything government puts its hands on, healthcare, housing, food, tuition, cars, utilities…just gets more and more unaffordable? Oh well. Probably nothing.

I played soccer in Europe, and there's a noticeable difference between playing against a German or a Turk or a Nigerian. Almost everything is race/culture based if you look deep enough. Don't see the Japanese or South Korean teams behaving that way when they're on the world's stage. A commentator once attributed, on air, a yellow card foul committed by a player to his "fiery Latin temperament".... Several minutes later he comes back to apologize for his "insensitive remarks". He was 100% correct in his observation.

Leçon finale des deux poèmes homériques : les vrais hommes châtient impitoyablement les étrangers qui abusent de leur hospitalité. On peut partager ou non cette vision mais le poète fait l’éloge d’hommes qui ne se laissent pas marcher dessus par des étrangers qui abusent de leur bonté.

A FOIA request revealed that, in just one town, 3rd parties (credit card companies, cell phone companies, alphabet agencies, retailers, foreign governments, etc...) accessed camera data more than 500,000 times in a 9 week period. "Flock Safety could not guarantee that it's not sharing information with federal agencies." No shit. Several municipalities in CT are "turning off" their Flock cameras in response to what one FOIA request revealed. The problem - the towns don't control/own the cameras nor the data they collect so they can't turn them off. They can instruct their employees to not access them but Flock, a private company funded *almost exclusively* (outside of people like Marc Andreessen & his ilk) by taxpayer dollars, owns the devices and the data. Not sure why Christopher Nolan doesn't think the "Nobody" pun doesn't translate to modern dialogue. The Odyssey's "Nobody" pun might be nearly 3,000 years old yet remains one of the most famous literary tricks in human history. It holds up today because it is simultaneously a simple joke, linguistic genius, and adds to Odyssyeus's hubris. There's even another layer to this trick. Odysseus knows he can't out muscle this guy. By stripping his name and becoming "Nobody", Odysseus proves that identity and strength are meaningless without intellect. After defeating the Cyclops, Odysseus (safe on his ship) let's his ego gets the best of him. He can't stand even his "Nobody" alter ego getting the credit, so he screams his real name back at the Cyclops to let him know who really did this to him. And of course, now that the cyclops knows it was really Odysseus, prays to Poseidon using his real name. Which in the poem, catches Odysseus a 10 year prison sentence out at sea. The "Nobody" joke is insanely multilayered and the real punchline is Odysseus can't stand Nobody taking credit for his exploits. The Odyssey (1997) | Andrei Konchalovsky
