In the last few weeks, at least two Black trans people have been shot and killed in the South. Honor them and read their stories. 🧵
Righteous TK “Chevy” Hill, a Black trans man who was a pillar of his local queer community, was shot and killed outside his home in East Point, Georgia last month. Chevy was a beloved queer leader who started a hair salon dedicated to serving and supporting the LGBTQ+ community. One friend called Chevy “a bright light whose mission it was to help others shine.” He was only 35 years old.
Diamond Brigman, a Black trans woman, was shot and killed in Houston, Texas last week. Her friend said Diamond was “larger than life… She had a lot of energy and was always smiling and personable.” Diamond was only 36 years old.
Trans and gender expansive people are 2.5 times more likely to be victims of violence than cis people. The anti-trans bills being proposed in Southern states are stoking the flames of violent transphobia, which has real, deadly consequences for the LGBTQ+ community. #DisarmHate them.us/story/hate-cri…
