This is the third time this year that state Rep. John Barrett III has led the charge against the state Department of Public Utilities. berkshireeagle.com/news/local/sta…
DPU approved only 6 Plans in 2021 and 1 in 2022. The filed Plans are essentially identical to those filed in 2016. The DPU needs to resurrect the process it used in 2016; this standstill is costing consumers/local economies $millions! @MiriamWasser what's going on at the DPU??!
Currently, ~24 aggregation plans are pending with the Department of Public Utilities (DPU). 13 of these have been waiting over 2 years. Mendon, N. Brookfield, and Burlington have been waiting FOUR YEARS. In 2016 the DPU approved 45 Plans, each taking ~5 months....
Dozens of communities with aggregation programs collectively saved their residents $millions over the last 6 months - money retained in the local economy rather than paid to large energy companies. BUT...other communities are being prevented from accessing the same benefits ....
For folks in Boston the new Eversource residential basic supply rate will be $0.15889/kWh July 1-December 31. Over that same period the City of Boston’s Community Clean Energy municipal aggregation Standard Rate (RPS + 10%) will be $0.11290: ~ 4½¢/kWh less than Eversource’s rate.
In 2022, Boston Community Choice Electricity saved customers $93,497,597 in comparison to Eversource Basic Service. Learn more about BCCE, and consider signing up today! boston.gov/bcce
Municipal aggregation allows cities and towns to purchase electricity in bulk, which lowers energy costs and increases the demand for clean energy. Click here to read the CommonWealth article: commonwealthmagazine.org/opinion/end-th… (2/2)

@jglarusso @AcadiaCtr @BostonEnviro Terrific Joe! Congratulations on the new role! Exciting!
@dharnanoor @SenWarren @SenMarkey Dharna - any response from the DPU yet to the Senators' letter?
It shouldn't be be necessary to do this, but for those wondering, I can confirm this is indeed an article by Seymour Hersh, with whom I've been in touch during the preparation of this article: How America Took Out The Nord Stream Pipeline open.substack.com/pub/seymourher…
Across MA, communities want to take advantage of a program that lets them control their electricity supply, often greening their power and saving money. But long delays at the DPU are coming at a cost—to residents' bottom line, and to the climate. bostonglobe.com/2022/10/16/sci…
More than 30 Community Choice Energy applications are delayed awaiting DPU approval - some > 2 years! This needs to be fixed. DPU should approve these by 2023. @MassAGO @maura_healey
Community Power continues to be the bright spot in local energy policy making. And man, ain't this, from @DMoKreis, the truth energynews.us/2022/06/23/com…
If you thought the news from Liberty was bad, check this out: Eversource is proposing a new default energy service rate of 22.566 cents per kwh for effect on August 1. More as soon as I climb up off the floor and back into my chair.
As crude oil, gasoline, and natural gas prices continue onward and upward, I have been amazed by the reactions of some people. These folks seem to believe that surging O&G prices emboldens their view that we should speed up the transition to zero carbon even more quickly. 1/8
Folks there is no way to sugar-coat this news. Later this week I expect the NHPUC to approve a new default energy service rate for residential electric customers of Liberty Utilities -- a whopping 22.223 cents per kilowatt-hour for effect on August 1. Not a typo. 1/7
Okay, I know it's just started to feel like spring here in New England. But I'm gonna be that guy... We need to talk about next winter. The war in Ukraine leaves the region's energy system very exposed to the global LNG market. Let me explain.
@jglarusso From ISO-NE: Between 5:00 and 8:00, gas-related issues --> 1000 MW of capacity outages and reductions, PLUS 985 MW of additional non gas-related forced outages. See April COO Report, slide 12 at nepool.com/meetings/
Switching to Community Choice Electricity (CCE) is a piece of cake🎂. February marks CCE’s first birthday, join @cityofboston’s fight against climate change by opting into renewable energy at affordable rates. Join the celebration today: boston.gov/community-choi….
