My nephew Tariq sent me this photograph from the UWC Robben Island Mayibuye archives. I could not believe that he recognised me. It was 1985, I was a medical student at UCT and part of the student movement in the country leading the protests against apartheid.

@Its_Phermy @KSomething10 @Malatjie_ True, it's also ridiculously expensive for elderly people. However, Liberty, Avbob, Assupol etc can push the age cap to 80-85 if money is not an issue. However, I would HIGHLY recommend talking to a Financial Planner as Life Cover at that age may not be the ideal solution.

@KSomething10 @Malatjie_ My personal favorites are PPS for Professionals and/or Glu Mutual, because you get a share of the profit the company makes. Sanlam is also good, they have an almost similar benefit called 'Wealth Bonus' Yes, you can pay life insurance for your parents.

@Malatjie_ 2/2 Most families have +3 funeral policies, usually separate among each adult, whereas they could bundle them into one and save R in premiums. Avg family can save R by opting for Life Insurance with a funeral benefit (Its cheaper in the long run and has for more benefits)

@Malatjie_ Lack of adequate financial education + exploitation by insurance companies. 1/2 Insurers deliberately market funeral to black communities, Financial Advisors also prefer them because you can sign someone up in less 2 minutes, cheaper upfront and accessible over the counter.

@DereleenJ I worked on an anti-drug community council for a long time and have come to understand that reporting drug dens to local police is waste of time. You stand a better chance with the provincial anti-gang unit, but unfortunately they're over stretched and can't respond immediately.
