Deliberate Destruction of Eskom and South Africa! - In 1998 the white paper on energy states that we need to start building new base load capable capacity to ensure our economic growth and maintain a stable grid. - 1999 The Mbeki administration maintains their keep the lights on campaign ignoring the white paper. - 2001 Eskom wins best international power supply utility award in the US. - 2002 Eskom starts to have grid problems with frequency due to high demand peaking at 36000MW and the first requests for pot lines to be dropped at Mozal starts. The National Control Log books starts to regularly show maximum generation warnings Level 1 and industry is starting to be load shed. The public is none the wiser. MSM is silent. Eskom erects 3 wind turbines at Klipheuwel in Cape Town for research into viability of wind. - 2003 to 2005 Grid disturbances become more frequent and we experience a few brown out events where we lose entire regions for up to a few hours at a time. This starts to make the news but is still seen as isolated events. - December 2005 The Koeberg Unit 1 "Bolt" incident becomes National news as the country loses 940MW of supply for an extended period of time. Conspiracies abound and ANC ministers shout sabotage. - 2006 Koeberg experiences the first Nuclear Power station blackout when numerous grid disturbances leaves Koeberg with only its emergency diesel generators running. The normal 400KV supply from our national grid is too unstable to supply Koeberg. The Acacia backup Units fail to start and connect to Koeberg due to further grid disturbances. I was in charge of Unit 1 Control Room at Koeberg during this event. The grid collapse of large regions across South Africa makes international headlines. Klipheuwel windfarm's 3 turbines are handed over to Peaking for commercial operation after the tests were completed. - 2007 Load shedding of industry has not stopped since the start in 2002 without public knowledge. The construction of Medupi and Kusile Power stations start. Too little too late and it takes far too long. Huge worldwide campaigns start against coal as a form of electricity generation as the international climate accords and deals take off. - 2008 Major international companies make decisions not to invest in building smelters and other large scale industry at Koega and other industrial zones due to the situation within Eskom. - 2009 to 2015 The IPP projects with various bid windows are awarded for solar and wind. Eskom is forced to buy the electricity at often more than 20 times more than its own units cost for a KW/Hour of electricity. This higher cost is handed down to the customer that blames Eskom for the increase in electricity prices when the addition of IPP's at excessive costs were the main drivers. The Eskom death spiral is set and the MSM either do not understand the situation or blatantly lie to the public because of the anti coal narrative. - 2014 The Jacob Zuma administration forges ahead with a Russian Nuclear deal to build around 9000MW worth of Nuclear Power stations. The completion of this deal is later stopped in a Cape Town High court case which said that due process was not followed. - 2016 Klipheuwel wind farm is decommissioned after 13 years. Eskom had gained the experience needed to decide what role if any wind would play in its energy mix. From this experience Sere wind farm 100MW was erected. Wind would NOT form a large portion of the Eskom energy mix based on the lessons learnt and especially the cost incurred. The climate narrative is ramped up world wide and South Africa and Eskom is singled out as Africa's black swan with regards to pollution while the developed world keep on buying our higher grade coal. - 2018 The Cyril Ramaphosa administration drives the UN Agenda 2030 and 2021 sustainable development goals and further fight for the inclusion of wind and solar into the South African energy mix. There is a problem. Most sites suitable for wind and solar is nowhere near where the electricity is needed and no grid exists for them to connect to. - 2019 In December Andre De Ruyter is appointed as Eskom CEO. In his first speeches he says that Eskom is a dead horse and needs to be replaced by IPP's. He travels the world to climate conferences and drives the "Energy Just Transition" to remove Eskom from its dependence on coal. Load shedding escalates as the focus on power generation changes to a focus on replacing Eskom with private entities. - 2023 Government appoints a minister of electricity as Load Shedding becomes commonplace and load shedding is finally seen as a national crisis. He announces that R320Billion needs to be spent to expand the power grid to allow IPP's to supply electricity to the grid. Eskom or in other worlds the public would have to pay for the grids being built to the power stations that companies are building, for profit, and then still pay for the electricity they produce. Everyone should see how crazy this is. - 2024 Eskom says that it cannot foot the bill for the grid expansion and that the private sector needs to get involved. Present Day - Who will pay for the grid expansion? You and me. Speak up. Eskom was set up to fail. The so called Just Energy Transition plan is not in the interest of the people of South Africa. It is in the interest of external world powers and the funders of the people in our government. Our coal is still being shipped to these countries that want us to shut down our coal fired power stations, 16000MW's worth The Mainstream Media is feeding narratives that pay salaries. Please people think. We urgently need to build new Base Load capable capacity and Nuclear is our best option.

I was exactly like this… until I got called out for it by the team and people were leaving the company. I started going for therapy to understand myself better and where this projection comes from. It’s been one hell of a work in progress. I’m not perfect, but I’m definitely better than I was. There’s a difference between passion and aggression and I believe Her message is not wrong…the delivery is. Alot of us have this problem as leaders.
