World Cup 2026. Group stage math has turned everyone into an amateur statistician overnight. A random 1-1 draw happens, and somehow three different scenarios for who advances just got recalculated in everyone's head. Anyone else deep in spreadsheet mode, trying to figure out their team's path through?

🇺🇾 Uruguay's national team went through heightened security checks upon arrival in the US 🇺🇸. Sniffer dogs trained to detect prohibited substances and explosives were involved 🤯 This isn't the first time something like this has happened from the US side. How much more of this kind of disrespect toward players and officials are we going to see before the tournament is over?

Yesterday 🇩🇪 Germany destroyed 🇨🇼 Curaçao 7-1, and that scoreline had a quiet consequence nobody was really talking about. Germany has overtaken 🇧🇷 Brazil as the all-time top scorers in World Cup history. 239 goals to 238. One goal separates the two nations across nearly a century of football. There's a long way to go in this tournament. Brazil will have its chances to respond. But right now, Germany sit at the top of a list that matters to a lot of people. Do they pull away, or does Brazil fight back before the final whistle?

Countries where finding 20 elite footballers from hundreds of millions is just a numbers game in their favour. Then you've got 🇭🇷 Croatia — 3.9M. 🇺🇾 Uruguay — 3.6M. 🇸🇨 Scotland — 5.5M. 🇨🇭 Switzerland — 8.8M. Tiny talent pools, consistent World Cup presence, consistently punching above their weight. And one of the tournament favourites, 🇵🇹 Portugal — just 10.2M people. Somehow that's enough to produce one of the best generations of footballers on the planet. And then there's 🇨🇼 Curaçao — 156,000 people. The smallest nation ever to qualify for a men's World Cup. The population doesn't build football culture. Obsession does. Tradition does. Infrastructure does. Still, I'll never fully wrap my head around how a country of a few million manages to find 20 players capable of competing with giants ten times their size. Football is genuinely weird like that.

Yaya Toure 🇨🇮 is now in charge of Slovan Bratislava 🇸🇰. Big name, smaller league, but this isn't a club going nowhere. Slovan have been on a genuine upward curve the last couple of seasons, and they didn't need a marquee appointment to keep that going. So the real question isn't whether Toure is a big enough name. It's whether elite midfield experience actually translates into coaching results. The history on that is mixed at best. Some of the best players ever have struggled to make that jump. A few have made it look easy. If he gets it right, Slovan could be looking at their best European run in years. If not, it's another reminder that the two jobs have almost nothing in common. Nobody talks about Switzerland 🇨🇭, and I genuinely don't get it. Every major tournament, there's a list of dark horses doing the rounds. Switzerland never makes that list. Not once. But they're always there, always organized, always capable of knocking out a name nobody saw coming. This group stage should be a formality for them. On paper, this is one of the most winnable groups at the tournament, and Switzerland have the quality to top it comfortably, finishing first and moving on without much drama. Today against Qatar 🇶🇦, I've got them at a comfortable 3-0. What's your read on Switzerland this tournament? Quiet exit somewhere down the line, or the team that ends up wrecking someone's bracket?
