I wrote those last 6 chapters and had a finished draft of the book in 2 weeks. There’s nothing more powerful than holding yourself accountable. And making yourself accountable to others — even the small number of followers I have — is even more powerful. Share your progress.
I started posting my writing progress on X. I committed to 500+ words a day, and I posted my progress every single day. The result?
I put my money where my mouth was: • I enrolled in two paid writing workshops • I registered for a local writers conference And I wrote. I made tons of progress. But I wasn’t yet done. There was one final piece of the puzzle:
I was honest with myself. I asked myself, “Do I really want to finish this book?” The answer was yes. I knew I wouldn’t rest until I wrote the book. So I took steps to finish it:
Every time, I gave myself the little break I needed. But then I made excuses for why I couldn’t start writing again: • “I’m too busy” • “I’m in too much pain” • “I don’t want to be on my computer anymore after 8 hours of work” My mindset was wrong. So here’s what I did:
During those first few years of writing, I • Finished my PhD • Got a new job • Got married • Moved Each time something big happened, I told myself I couldn't write. I was wrong. Here's why:
It took me 3.5 years to write the first 20 chapters of my novel… ...and 2 weeks to write the last 6 chapters. In between, I learned one thing that changed everything. 👇
