Late afternoon sun spotlights another great Biblical name, Bathsheba (Hunt), who Obit (died) in 1786 at age 40, on a St. Paul's sandstone marker, featuring the first line "Beneath this Verdant Hillock Lies" from a 1720 Jonathan Swift poem.

On this 20th anniversary of the opening of the World War II Memorial, on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., we salute the soldiers of that conflict buried at St. Paul's, including Alfred Thomson, who served in the Merchant Marine.

This years marks the bicentennial of the freedom of Nathaniel and Hannah Franklin, a married Black couple enslaved to a local family near St. Paul's. They were manumitted in 1824, living the final few years of their long lives in freedom, followed by burial in the churchyard.
Sweet sounds beckon: In recognition of National Park Week, we are pleased to offer brief recitals upon request, and staff availability, on the historic 1830 Erben pipe organ at St. Paul's, one of the nation's oldest working organs.
Gideon is a great Biblical name, & also the first name of church vestryman and skilled carpenter Gideon Coggeshall, who completed the interior of St. Paul's in the early 19th century. Late afternoon sun illuminates his marble gravestone, d. 1838, today, in the historic cemetery.
