Dexter Resurrection | S1 Review “This is who I am, what I am. I am Dexter Morgan. I am exactly who I need to be, exactly who you want me to be.” Watching Dexter and experiencing some of the highest of highs in television is a special feat in it’s own right. But what really begins to blow my mind is that after watching 8 seasons, with many ups and downs and then 2 further spin-offs over a decade later is how once we reach Resurrection, the 11th season of Dexter, it manages to deliver one of the most refreshing and utterly incredible pieces of TV i’ve ever seen. How the actual fuck is that possible? I’ve been weeks removed from finishing S1 and it still hasn’t settled in whatsoever. The way Resurrection handles it’s antagonists is one of it’s strongest aspects and in so so many ways it could’ve gone to absolute shit. It throws four primary Serial Killers, one billionaire madman, a professional killer and Angel fucking Batista at Dexter in only 10 Episodes. On paper this season has everything going for it in becoming a total disaster, but what it actually delivers is a thing of beauty. Every Killer has something to offer, distinct and complex characters who could’ve happily occupied an entire season, which in a way is maybe a nitpick because man i would’ve loved to explore these Villains more, especially with the superstar actors who played them. Now that i’ve finished all the season has to offer i can express how much i love how Resurrection handled the legacy of Dexter. The man past his days but somehow still in a prime state. The veteran getting back into the game. A world that recognises The Bay Harbour Butcher as one of the most prolific Killers of all time while he’s casually walking around NYC. The Dexter i’ve spent countless hours with just feels so Rejuvenated to the point where i really believe this version of the character could justify another 8 seasons worth of TV, He’s got the history, all his rights and wrongs and the way that plays into how rebirth of Dexter Morgan makes him by far the most compelling he’s ever been. Would feel wrong if i didn’t talk about the growth Michael C. Hall’s performance has gone through because it’s the type of thing i admire so much about a series that gets to exist for this long. The confidence on display is the best, the playfulness has never felt so at home and my god man above all this has completely solidified Dexter Morgan as an all time favourite character of mine. I think what drives home Dexter Resurrection among the OG and it’s Spin-Offs is how it feels like the perfect combination of old and new, lessons learned and the presentation pushed forward. New Blood sometimes felt like too much of a change in the formula despite nailing the modern feel of a Dexter show and that’s where Resurrection finds the sweet spot, because i truly love how Dexter looks in 2025. They completely found their rhythm with Harrison’s place in this show and it’s legacy characters as a whole. For someone like Harrison who struggled in NB despite some great character work, he ended up having one of the most captivating roles of the season. A genuinely fantastic father/Son dynamic & a constant conflict that fueled Resurrection from beginning to end. Which equally goes for the presence and energy Batista brought, his story and motivations really just work. It’s the natural progression for a man who’s lost everything and can’t ignore what’s staring him in the face. The best friend turned into the man hunting Dexter and the story that finally lets Batista be a true detective. Their conflict, the everlasting tension that you feel ready to snap every single episode. I’m gonna miss this man, but fuck what a high to go out on. I love this season. I adore this season. It’s my favourite among them all and that is insane to say with the likes of S4 & S1. So unbelievably excited for what Dexter Resurrection continues to look like going into S2 because i’ve never been eager for more than i am right now.
