I assume you are traveling along I-20. There are several hotel options in Arlington along that route. I wouldn't recommend staying anywhere on the south side of Fort Worth until you get to the west side of it. Anything west of Hulen/Bryant Irvin area will probably be fine including all of the towns outside of Fort Worth heading west.

@catturd2 My dad is also a Vietnam Vet. Any time he needs anything from the VA he (an 82 year old man) has to drive over 100 miles one way to see a VA doctor.
