(this remains to be my biggest car blunder) Ignorance is expensive ! Let me tell you of how I lost a cool 200k via quack mechanics! I had just bought my first landcruiser and Honestly, though I was good with cars , I knew very little about manual transmissions. I had one dedicated mechanic (not Reuben) that I trusted more than Google! After sometime , my car started having issues with gear shifting! After taking the car to my mech , he concluded that I had issues with my gearbox and heck we spent a cool 40k trying to fix it all in vain ! A trip to Nairobi saw me spend a good 45k or so on gears and synchronizers trying to fix the same Gearbox but in vain ! We did rebuild the same gearbox twice no success. A good 90k went down to drain in vain ! That's when I decided to buy another gearbox & transfer at 110k . The "new" Gearbox had issues 😰. Just like the old one , shifting wasn't smooth and some weird noises when trying to shift . Just before i came to the conclusion ya kurogwa , I did a good study of how the gearbox works via YouTube. The synchronizers , clutch, gears etc ! It was then that I thought of the clutch. I went to another mech (Reuben) who discovered that my clutch disc was badly worn out !!!! We changed the clutch disc, a new one costing just 6k . And with that the old gearbox was shifting smooth and sweet ! I spent more than 200k over something as cheap as 6k. Lesson is simple , invest in a good garage, informed mechanic & also in knowing how your car operates and you will save lots of money !
