And there are many parasitical strategies that use a person's empathy against them. Sometimes these develop into entire political/ideological movements, where the population's empathy becomes an attack vector that the unscrupulous can exploit for gain.

@ShepJoel Reminds me of a really good YouTuber explainer video I watched on game theory it was the empathetic one that won every time but it couldn't be empathetic all the time every time it had to every once in awhile not be
@ShepJoel Marxist democrats believe that if you take away people's self-defence tools evil ones will not take advantage of them, they are wrong
Exactly. In The Righteous Mind, writer and sociologist Jonathan Haight dissects and studies the minds of ‘conservatives’ vs ‘progressives’ ( I refuse to call these totalitarians liberal). Conservatives have a few more pillars of morality, for example, they place great value in honesty, tradition and the sanctity of elections. The ‘progressives’ believe the ends justifies the means, so honesty is not as important to them. But here’s the rub: Republicans are getting owned by the Democrats because they 1) can’t believe people would cheat in the first place, 2) consequently don’t fight back effectively, and 3) Democrat operatives KNOW this about Republicans. That’s a serious loss for what I consider the political group that still values Western Civilization.
@ShepJoel @elonmusk And that’s how we end up with cult-like situations like this—from empathy being used to inculcate a guilt complex based on incoherent thoughts of racism and climate doom, resulting in a new breed of fascists who ironically say they’re anti-fascist. 🤪
Joel, the concept of empathy being manipulated is crucial, particularly in how Trump leverages nationalism. He skillfully channels national pride and concern, positioning himself as a protector of American values. This approach preys on genuine feelings of patriotism, redirecting them towards divisive policies. It exploits the desire to belong and defend one's community, turning empathy inward and against perceived outsiders. This manipulation of empathy for political gain deepens societal divides, showcasing the importance of guarding how our empathy is directed to uphold true values.

@ShepJoel Some even troll us while doing it by calling their organizations such names as "The Open Society Foundation."
@ShepJoel I believe we are watching that happen today in the US and many other European nations. It needs to stop. Not all cultures are created equal, nor do they want to simply coexist.
