For the first time, the Kansas Water Authority voted today to recommend the state end its policy of “planned depletion” for the Ogallala aquifer. It’s essentially the first time a state entity has officially said that pumping the aquifer dry to support crop irrigation is not ok.
The Platte River is completely dry between Columbus and Grand Island. All of the water flowing beyond Columbus is actually Loup River water. #newx
