There was very brief rotation visible in the updraft of the thunderstorm that died as it was arriving here in Reading - a few loud booms and a visible flash of lightning and that was our lot!

Without a doubt one of the most electrically active daytime storms I've seen without leaving the house here in Coventry just now. Nonstop loud thunder for at least 15 minutes. Pretty much all lightning was intracloud.

@yari_dawg @QuackenbushBTC And if I recall correctly they also mentioned that in a case where an anemometer measurement was available in a tornado, the speed averaged over a 0.05s period was 18% higher than a 1s, and 60% higher than a 3s averaged speed.

@yari_dawg @QuackenbushBTC The IF scale itself as a section specifically dedicated to explaining its usage of instantaneous wind speeds over 3s gusts and how the conversion is incredibly iffy. E.g. standard conversion for non-tornadic events expect 0.1s gusts to be 17% higher than 3s wind gusts.

Another day, another record. Camborne now provisionally holds the highest UK May minimum temperature record of 21.4ºC - continuing to break the old UK record of 18.9ºC set in 1947. This is an all-time record for the station by 1.3ºC and breaks its May record by OVER 5ºC!
