Do you really think cutting the sex scenes from a film to change its MPAA or BBFC rating would change the subtext of the film? There’s more than one minute of sex filmed for each minute that passes. Even if you limited your assessment to a niche microgenre, you would have to paint with a very broad brush to make sweeping generalisations about the subtext of every video, photograph, illustration, and fanfic story within said microgenre Maybe the sweeping generalisations that you’re making about porn stem from the type of films that you watch and novels that you read. Who is your favourite sex film director?
@bladeeofwoe @Amina_io @unsettlingvibes People have been writing pornography for centuries. The authors don’t share a uniform expectation. They don’t conform to a consistent set of attitudes and norms. You can simply add a shot of a penis ejaculating to any film to change its rating.

Say, hypothetically, that the elusive male orgasm is finally captured on film. How does that bring about the social effects that you’re worried about? Do you predict that some members of the audience will get mad at the actor and think “That guy’s a real ne'er-do-wel! Nobody should ejaculate in a movie! I’m going to obscure his humanity.” Even if some people do have that reaction, why are you blaming the film genre instead of blaming the nutters who get bent out of shape when they see a sex scene?

@bladeeofwoe @Amina_io @unsettlingvibes I don’t see how cutting the sex scenes from a film would make it any less commodified or objectified. The actors are still paid to entertain. The film would still be a commercial product. Actors have bodies.
@soltyrannus @growing_daniel I don’t have very good data on the subject. Some things that seem normal to American boomers might come across as overly forward or ingratiating to other demographic members.
@soltyrannus @growing_daniel Some reflexively chipper affects being discussed seem more boomer coded to me. You also tend to see it in industries that disproportionately cater to boomers like hospitality, medicine, Broadway shows, and network TV.
The image in OP isn’t about intimate affects. It’s more about default presentations to strangers (and possibly work colleagues and customers). Young people in the US and Brazil watch fewer hours of network TV than their elders. They’re also alleged to be more awkward when talking to strangers in comparison to previous generations.
