Fourteen years ago today, I signed the Affordable Care Act into law. Afterwards, one Republican member of the House called the ACA the “most dangerous piece of legislation ever passed in Congress.” Another predicted the country would “never recover from it.” But then something else happened: it actually worked.
You literally fvcked the American people. Insurance costs have risen significantly. Before you did this, I would have a 500 deductible with an out of pocket max of 3500. 60 dollars a month. I pay 600 a month for insurance I can't use. 7700 dollar deductible with a 15,000 out of pocket max. What part is affordable in that?
Since you’re not old, you must make a good living. Under the old plan, they could have dumped you if you had too many claims or one that was too expensive. Like car insurance. I had a wealthy friend bitching about how he was going to have to pay $2,800 a month for his family of five on ACA. Sounded expensive until I hear he makes $650k a year.
I'm not kidding when I say this. My kid ended up in the er a year ago. They charged 300 for a Tylenol. By the time we had a scan and everything else was done, which was minimal, I got a bill for 5000 dollars. Still didn't meet my deductible. Insurance paid for nothing. I'm still paying on that bill.
@Sassafrass_84 @BarackObama I got a 20k deductible and a monthly payment of $1700 a month with zero income and that's just for me and not even counting my family
@Sassafrass_84 @BarackObama Algorithm pushing this to the top 🔝 of the thread based on popular opinion
That's your annual deductible that's not your deductible. Like if you go to a outpatient clinic, The doctor was going to be like 50 to $200 at the maximum. Your annual deductible is the amount that they can take over the period of an entire year. Which means if you needed a $250,000 heart transplant, The Maxi would pay is like $7,000. The insurance before would make you pay everything above $80,000. So if your family didn't have $170,000 you would die of heart disease no matter what at the age of 30 something. You might want to do some research and you might want to think about what you're saying or understand how it works before you say things. I don't think the patient protection and affordable Care act was a good idea. But I'm also not going to make up stories about how my doctor wants me to pay $7,000 every time I go see him. That's just not true.
