𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐃𝐫 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐧 𝐖𝐞𝐛𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐲: Today (July 19, 2024) the General Medical Council has revoked my licence to practice, despite the 6-year battle that I undertook and eventually won in the High Court to keep it.  In the proceedings before the Medical Practitioners Tribunal, the Tribunal observed that, “[Dr Webberley] answered technical questions about hormone therapies unhesitatingly and authoritatively. […] the Tribunal was impressed by the depth and breadth of her knowledge of endocrinology and gender dysphoria. The Tribunal was in no doubt that Dr Webberley had immersed herself in the field of transgender healthcare to the extent that she could properly be described as a GP with special interest in gender dysphoria, both in respect of the psychosocial and the endocrine facets of this field of medical practice”. Yet despite this, and despite my repeated requests, the GMC won’t offer me the opportunity to revalidate my licence within my specialism. So just some months after my win against the GMC in the High Court, the flawed revalidation process used by the GMC has ultimately enabled it to remove my licence to practice.    There are between 300,000 and 400,000 transgender people in the UK today and that number is only going to increase. There needs to be more doctors, not less, supporting the transgender community. There needs to be experts with years of experience working with and assisting transitioning people or those considering transition. There needs to be proper regulation to support this vulnerable citizen group. The same number of people in the UK have rheumatoid arthritis and type 1 diabetes - this is not a small segment of society. This is not a niche! These are real people as equal as any other and their number is growing. If we don’t have the clinical experience, the shared knowledge amongst practitioners and the learning pathways to enable us to support this community then we will have failed them time and time again.   Whilst I no longer have my licence to practice, I will continue my work through GenderGP which, in the last decade, has grown to become one of the leading global providers of expert trans healthcare information in the world, serving data to over one hundred thousand people questioning their gender or considering transition every month.   Through GenderGP I will continue to work tirelessly in pursuit of healthcare equality for trans and non-binary people. This process has only increased my determination to do so.   My purpose will always be to care for those who need it most. Only a small number of young people are prescribed puberty blockers. Those who are often describe them as life-saving. I know the distress the puberty blockers ban is causing them. No matter what happens in court, I will continue fighting for the government to scrap it.

No, that’s not what happened. Labour purged their candidate on the eve of an election and humiliated her in the process. If they’d kept her as a candidate, she would have won. This defeat is on Starmer, and again sums up how urban voters have no enthusiasm for his leadership.
