The pub is not just about having a pint. In the UK, 3.6 million people suffer from chronic loneliness. Over a million people go a month without speaking to anyone. Pubs are at the heart of our communities. My comments on @BBCBreakfast.
@Sacha_Lord @BBCBreakfast We LOST Over 6000 venues last year Over 8000 venues LOST 2022 We LOSE 2 Grassroots music Venues every week We LOSE 1 pub EVERY day, 383 lost last year Restaurants, Theatres ALL of our hospitality and nighttime venues are closing down at the highest rate in history #SaveNightlife
@Sacha_Lord @BBCBreakfast Whilst we are bashing the current government, should we be also bashing the opposition to commit to the reduction now , offering them our votes if they do?!
@Sacha_Lord Some of my poetic friends are brilliant at open mics in pubs and bars, I need to pluck up the courage again at some point!
@Sacha_Lord @BBCBreakfast How about an alcohol free pub? They would be beneficial for a lot of people who have overcome addictions and suffer loneliness.
@Sacha_Lord @BBCBreakfast Exactly! We need to make pubs the cheapest place to drink alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks and it is totally down to government, society would benefit massively and the sector would boom! Take all duty and VAT away from pubs/hosp and put it on shop bought booze!
@Sacha_Lord @BBCBreakfast 100% agree that pubs are the fabric of our society but sadly alcohol is the glue that keeps it all together. Having been licencee, I’ve seen the dark side of alcohol and now as a mental health nurse the devastation. Pubs can survive but they need to shift direction/diversify.
@Sacha_Lord @BBCBreakfast The over policing of neighbourhood pubs has seen many lose licences for one off incidents . You need to start there. That and the price of draft beer. Why not tax cans and bottles but only kegs?
@Sacha_Lord @BBCBreakfast This is so true. Even people at the Church I attend #stolavesYork go for a pint after a service. Pubs represent community!
