🚘Good news for Staten Island commuters: The Korean War Veterans Parkway project has been postponed until after Labor Day. In addition, there will be a concerted cleanup effort for the south bound lane in the coming days, the barrels will be removed, and the right lane will be reopened.

After an explosion in Mariners Harbor that injured civilians and firefighters, and tragically took the life of an innocent worker, we joined City and FDNY officials, firefighters, and the families of those impacted at Staten Island University Hospital last night. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims, their loved ones, and all those affected by this tragedy. God bless New York’s Bravest.

Borough President Vito Fossella issued the following statement regarding the delay of the Korean War Veterans Parkway maintenance project:

🚨UPDATE: Following concerns raised by Borough President Vito Fossella and many Staten Island residents regarding the shortage of official NYC trash bins, the City will now extend the containerization deadline through Labor Day. We thank DSNY Commissioner Gregory Anderson for hearing our concerns and working with us to ensure Staten Islanders have a fair opportunity to comply with the new rules without unnecessary penalties.

Today, Borough President Vito Fossella sent a letter to DSNY Commissioner Gregory Anderson requesting an extension to the deadline so residents are not unfairly penalized while stores work to restock the required bins. ♻️🗑️

120 years later, Staten Island Borough Hall continues to stand at the heart of our borough and our history. Today, Borough President Vito Fossella was joined by residents, community leaders, and students to commemorate the 120th anniversary of Borough Hall, where the cornerstone was first laid in 1904. From the vision of Staten Island’s first Borough President, George Cromwell, to the iconic clock tower overlooking New York Harbor today, Borough Hall remains a symbol of civic pride and public service for the people of Staten Island. Special thanks to the talented Susan E. Wagner High School Jazz Band for helping make the celebration memorable.

Borough President Vito Fossella congratulated Mario Bruno, the Staten Island Borough Commissioner for @NYCWater, as he retires from a 35-year career in public service spanning all aspects of government. In his honor, BP Fossella presented a proclamation declaring today, April 17, 2026, as “Borough Commissioner Mario Bruno Day” in Staten Island. We thank Borough Commissioner Bruno for his commitment to public service and we wish him well in his retirement. It was a pleasure to meet new Department of Environmental Commissioner Lisa Garcia today and we look forward to working with her.

📝BP Vito Fossella issued the following statement regarding yesterday’s conviction of the killer of NYPD Detective Jonathan Diller: “Detective Jonathan Diller – hero, husband, and father – was murdered in the line of duty two years ago while keeping our City safe. His loss was a tragedy, and a brutal reminder of the risks our police officers face every day.     It is awful that his killer was convicted only of aggravated manslaughter and other charges, and not first-degree murder.   It is our hope that he receives the maximum sentence, to send the message that those who kill our police officers will face the most significant consequences.     Detective Diller left an honorable and inspiring legacy of courageous service in protecting this City. We offer our prayers to his loved ones, and we resolve to keep his and other slain officers’ memories alive. Our men and women in blue work an around-the-clock job to protect us. We must do all we can to keep them safe, and their killers locked up for life.”
