@teacher_carroll Had an interesting twitter discussion on #SatChat. The topic was getting students involved in learning during the summer. What was interesting was how quite a few of the participants were advocating "Make it fun" With your current game project I about you.
@KelleyKolpitcke A4: By our nature we enjoy things we think of as fun. Make it fun we engage. Make it fun for students, they engage. I have a 7 grade (social studies) student who knows all about the working of electric trains and the power grid in Germany because he likes trains! #Satchat
@HeatherLieberm2 @TheBradCurrie @ScottRRocco @wkrakower A1: I agree making something fun will help to engage your students. If they perceive something as fun then they will engage. However, to make something fun you have to know your audience so a personal connection with the students helps #satchat
@pammoran A1: I agree, it is about making those personal connections that help to engage students. If you show an interest in your students and their interests they are more willing to try something that you suggest (like reading over the summer).
@T_HEB I agree, play is very important (especially in the summer) by our nature we engage and learn best when we think of something as fun. It also helps as educators to try to use the personal relationships we have built over the school year to encourage learning over the summer.
