When I walk in a school, I don’t just observe to see if front office or teachers are happy. I observe custodians, cafeteria workers, everyone. Because building positive school culture means everyone is valued & appreciated. And it shows!

When you’ve worked in a toxic school for many years the effects of that are long lasting. To assume that moving schools solves the problem is naive. All of the panic & anxiety will take years to work through. @RogersHistory touched on this a while back.

Today I supported a team member with overhauling the PSHE curriculum, helped steer behaviour policy and completed a Perf Manag after school. All while teaching full time. Never a full day as Asst HT.

#MantleoftheExpert How do you maintain a sense of purposefulness and structure, without ‘bossing’ the students about? Mantle of the Expert is about freedom not license, the work requires a sense of purpose and discipline, it is not a free for all.

I’ve heard some educators and many non-educators say to teachers who ask for improvements... ‘Love it or leave it. Stop complaining.’ How about... ‘Love it AND try to IMPROVE it.’
