You want to know something funny. When I was deep in my addiction I always thought I should teach a masterclass on how to cook crack. That’s how fucked I was. I’m no victim. All of it is on me. There's a difference between a collectible and a keepsake. Have we lost that perspective? My children, who have 0 idea on the value of Pokemon cards would have been super stoked to trade a beat up Gengar card for an autograph from the singer of the Pokemon theme song. And there is value to that experience! Like it or not, Jason is a creator and he deserves to be paid. His prices are his prices, and the transaction was fair in that regard. Making a kid feel like shit about his interaction with Jason, and the "value" of his card is what's wrong in this scenario. I've vended at shows with Jason there, and he's come up to our table in much the same way he's done to other vendors. We have always politely declined his signatures, and we've never done any business with him. It's not because we don't like him, but because we are a business that operates on market values. We're there to make money, and he's there to make money. He isn't doing anything anyone else on the show circuit isn't doing in order to make a living, and to drag the guy for what looks like an innocuous transaction because the resale value of his autograph doesn't match the market value of traded card is wrong.
