Ahead of last year’s budget, over 80,000 people signed my petition calling for a Wealth Tax. A 2% Wealth Tax on assets over £10 million would raise £24 BILLION per year. I believe this is a way to raise crucial funds urgently needed to help tackle the cost-of-living crisis.

This is genuinely sad to see. The Government can find the money to increase foreign aid from 0.2% to 0.7%, while we already send Pakistan £133 million a year. Yet we can't find a few million to keep Britain's largest space telescope open. It helped support the Apollo missions, tracked Soviet rockets during the Cold War, and inspired generations of scientists. Our priorities are completely backwards.

It’s politics of envy that Labour are pushing on Brits. Anyone that dared take risks, dared to buy assets, dared to better themselves… are being demonised and targeted in a tax grab. We’ve now had 27 days of sunshine in England. Millions face hosepipe bans 🌞 Yet so far this year, we’ve had 150% of our average long-term rainfall. Some areas have had over 50 days of consecutive rain 🌧️ Something is very wrong with our water industry.

The lack of understanding in basic economics with these people blows my mind. Saving a landlord £6k a year is not going to save a pub / club. Inflationary pressures and regularity costs are what is killing business: 1. People have less money to go out 2. Input prices are up 3. Customers can’t absorb them 4. Energy costs are up 5. Minimum wage is up 6. Regulatory costs are up If you want to help pubs / clubs you can help everyone at the same time, but you require economic policies that aren’t retarded. You have to just get the fuck out of the way of entrepreneurs and end the managerial state. Yes, there will be some cry babies saying life isn’t fair, but they’re still saying life isn’t fair despite all this. Fucking socialists, the dumbest fucks in the room.

Well, that’s one way to make sure nobody ever comes to our country again to make major investments and/or start businesses. And to make sure those already here quickly scarper. Good luck forcing them still to pay after they’ve left. And all for a measly £10bn a year (of course it will be nowhere near that in reality) — 0.7% of actual annual government spending. Much more, of course, will be lost in capital flight and foregone future investment. Is the country going bonkers?

Having read through the transcript for Andy Burnham's speech today and put the soft bits to one side, it contains the red flags I worry about - big state, more bureaucracy, more state intervention, and inevitably higher taxes. This Government is not going to tread more lightly on our lives. Personally, I feel that a prosperous UK lies in a different direction - a smaller state that gets out of people's way, with lower taxes to boot. When Government employs people to take money from you, swill it through a bureaucracy and then maybe hand some of it back, something's gone wrong. Government doesn't ask you to contribute more, it forces you to do so. Whether it's Starmer or Burnham, Labour is clearly willing to do that.
