@benonwine The 3 day week was a disaster for our economy. The less well off who still used coal for heating/hot water were left shivering. Power cuts every night meant they shivered in the dark around a candle. Mobs of flying pickets travelled around striking factories threatening workers.

@andyburnham We shouldn't pay tax on our energy bills at all. We have already paid tax when we earn the money we use to pay for gas and electricity. Why do we have to pay tax again on top of our bills for a basic necessity?

@JohnHealey_MP When VAT was introduced to replace purchase tax, it was a tax on luxury goods. It was never charged on energy. But, under a Labour government, heating and lighting is regarded as a luxury. Back to Victorian times.
