I think my biggest beef with micromanagers is that they forsake building process and rely on their micromanagement instead. When that person leaves or is unable to keep covering those self-created gaps, everyone around them is hit with the crisis of the system collapsing.

Steal this idea: When I travel for work, I bring a couple of my kid's books with me. Then I find a 10 minute window to record myself reading the book in my hotel room and send it to my wife to play for the kids at bed time.
