@ChristianHeiens @MarcHedgehog This is the primary reason that we don't see anything "great" anymore. Greatness inherently creates a hierarchy. It shouts from the rooftops, "This thing is better than other things." As a classical music guy, this is why very few "great" works were written since 1950.
The idea that there could be something that isn't for everybody is fundamentally the most horrifying metaphysical concept imaginable for a Liberal. Everything must be for everyone. There can be nothing unique or particular. Nothing can be exclusionary. Nothing can be discriminatory, even when nature itself is inherently exclusionary or discriminatory. And asking Liberals to simply accept that this is the nature of the world is to inherently ask them to abandon being Liberals in the first place. Some might do it, but the overwhelming majority will not. They'd rather wage war on nature herself than ever admit that their utopian fantasies are wrong and unworkable.
The new "punk rock" will be observing the world and the heavens as they actually are. Beauty will NOT be merely in the eye of the beholder, but will reach to transcendent truths and boldly proclaim them.
Truthfulness in art is when something is represented with clarity and accuracy. Sad things are sad. Pretty things are pretty. You can be ironic, sardonic, satirical, but again that must be clear.
The primary issue with most modern art is that it is subversive Its primary goal is to take something true and/or traditional and "flip it on its head" Ironically, this new "tradition" is tired and needs to itself be subverted by artists who wish to once again be truthful

I love it when composers reuse bits of melody between completely unrelated pieces You'll just hear two measures of melody that is ripped right from an older piece, and I love it.

Many modern concert pieces that avoid traditional tonality would have had a lot more of my love if they had some structure otherwise They're often just SO random in the name of being "artistic" that they've lost any semblance of form.
Sexual degenracy, nonsense, just plain gross themes like scat or piss, subversive messaging. VERY few decent pieces.
The last several times I've gone to art museums, I checked out the modern exhibits. Morbid curiousity! Visceral feeling of disgust. Literally skin-crawling. I usually have my kids with me too, and I have to check it out beforehand because MOST TIMES it's too pornographic.

The same is true for new concert compositions. I'm sure good ones are out there, but no one cares because of the opportunity cost of going to see a new premiere. You buy tickets, block out your evening, to have a 7% chance of something decent, and 93% chance of pure subversion.
I have a hard time even imagining an art musem having an exhibit of new art and it NOT being 95% communist/leftist slop Art institutions have completely soiled all of their good will. Even if great pieces are being made, no one cares because the entire industry is a byword.
