Right now, the Chinese government heavily subsidizes its steel and aluminum industries, allowing manufacturers to charge extraordinarily low prices, crowding out U.S. companies and killing U.S. jobs 2/5
These tariffs would help even the playing field and neutralize Beijing’s efforts to wipe out our domestic steel and aluminum industries and the workers that power them. Meanwhile, China has used similar tactics in the shipbuilding industry, with similar costs to our economy. 3/5
