Walls are a symbol of our broken immigration system and of the lack of political will in Congress to address immigration reform.
I’ve never voted for wall funding, and I remain adamant that the solution is bipartisan immigration reform. I've put forward a bill with my colleague @RepSalazar: the Dignity Act.
We cannot continue to waste time and money on policies that harm people and the environment and do not reflect our country's values. Walls are an expensive, ineffective, and harmful distraction from the real work of legislating.
I urge the @WhiteHouse to reconsider this decision — especially the disastrous choice to waive environmental laws — and work with Congress to reinvest these funds in border modernization and technology to improve safety and security.
@RepEscobar @WhiteHouse You should know that Congress has to re-appropriate things by passing legislation. The president can't do that unilaterally.
How do we improve safety and security ? Legislation is the way forward. Has to be. It is current law which is allowing the current results. What needs to happen to bring federal state and local laws to come together for helping expedite legitimate migrants into housing while expedition illegal immigrants back to their rightful home. While at the same time setting up a system where we don’t become responsible for everyone who finds their way across a river.
@RepEscobar @JulianCastro @WhiteHouse Biden says he tried to do this, but the gop won't let him. He follows the law.
@RepEscobar @WhiteHouse He already did that and GAO told the WH they wanted a timeline and the time is up. You are in congress so you should know this more than us.
@RepEscobar @WhiteHouse Sounds as though POTUS doesn't have a choice.
@RepEscobar @WhiteHouse What is he supposed to do when even Democrats who support him wants this mess at the border cleaned up.
@RepEscobar @TUSK81 @WhiteHouse This is a dishonest take Congresswoman and you know it. I’m disappointed. But I guess politicians will be politicians.
@RepEscobar @WhiteHouse I urge you to know how government works.
@RepEscobar @WhiteHouse Did you listen to what he said? He must use appropriated money for the use for which it was appropriated
