Because of the flood lights, I can’t see the stars from the prison rec yard. It’s been over 10 years since I’ve seen the night sky. This is one of the simple things I miss the most.

After 3 years, I can finally go outside in the early morning again. The individual birds are surely different but the same flock of starlings still comes around at that same time.

I don't know what kind of bug I got but I've never been this sick. I couldn't get out of bed, couldn't eat and could barely move. I hope I get better soon.

The lockdown is over! After 40 days, it was a shock to be outside again. Winter is more firmly in place now, but it feels good. Hopefully I won't have to go through that again for a while.

I got out of the cell for 3 hours! I got to call home and see the mountain tops through a window. It was overstimulating with all the other prisoners running around the cell block, but it felt good to be in a bigger space.

My February resolution is to practice negative visualization each day. The idea is to imagine, in great depth, losing something you value but often take for granted. Once you truly feel what it'd be like, open your eyes & feel as much gratitude as you can. It works. Try it out!

Over 4 weeks into the lockdown. Each day just blurs into the next. The lack of sun and fresh air throws off my sleep cycle, but my meditation practice is thriving and I'm getting fit with daily workouts. Could be worse.
