@MugiwarKaizoku1 @jmaza86 Without Russia there's a case to be made that the U.S. says "No, that's your problem" and doesn't get involved (or at least, doesn't send troops directly) and redirects that effort against the Japanese. It would be a horrible decision, of course.

@ResistirLa4T @jmaza86 But likewise without the Soviet involvement there's a good chance the U.S. says "Nah, that's your problem" and all of the equipment, personnel, and effort that went into Europe gets redirected into the Pacific which means Japan collapses faster, possibly before Germany can help.

@OmarBessa @jmaza86 Again, I'm not disagreeing that the Red Army did the heavy lifting on the European front. Just disagreeing that because of that you can say they carried the Allies across the full war. With or without that effort the U.S. (with ANZAC help) is still going to be island-hopping.

@ResistirLa4T @jmaza86 Oh the war in Europe is completely different without Russia, no doubt about that. But one of Japan's explicit goals was pushing the U.S. out of the Pacific (at least back to Hawaii) and that doesn't change with or without Russia so the U.S. was going to have to deal with it.

@OmarBessa @jmaza86 I think its a stretch to say the Red Army carried the full World War. I agree that the U.S.'s direct influence in Europe is often overblown, but likewise I don't think the lack of the Russians suddenly changes the Pacific Front of the war.

@ResistirLa4T @jmaza86 Sure, that's generally agreed. But that doesn't change the fact that the U.S did the heavy lifting on the Pacific Front. And given some of the backdoor diplomacy between Russia and Japan there's a real chance that they find an acceptable agreement anyway.

@jmaza86 What I take from the responses to this is the number of people (mainly Europeans, largely Brits) who seem to think WW2 was all fought on or near the European continent. This would be big news to Japan, China, Australia, etc. if true.
