This very famous picture shows the face that was separated from its donor (a woman who died of an overdose) after 16 hours of a transplant operation at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. The surgeons are observing it, pausing before transplanting it, a task in which they would spend another 15 hours to "stick" the face onto Katie Stubblefield, the youngest patient in North America to undergo a transplant of this type. The photo was among the National Geographic's 21 Most Attractive Images of the 21st Century.
