In reality, many trainers choose not to pursue legal action. There are TOP trainers right now that accept less than their entitled percentage after the fight, because they don’t wanna lose their job and the check they do make. These fighters know what they’re doing…
Just read this in it’s entirety. This is a lot to digest. Your fighter makes 25M and you only get 300k? Fighter purses are intentionally lower because the real money is in the “side check” and on the back end.
I’d guess that 97.5% of trainers don’t have contracts lol
Spence and DJ spent so many years together and they faced serious life challenges together. It’s disheartening to witness their separation. So I guess the question is, who is gonna train Spence? Who’d be a good fit for him?
This is a stark reminder that assumptions about money in the boxing industry can lead to disappointment. In this business, handshake deals and past history often hold little weight.
It's crucial for both trainer and fighter to have clarity on compensation. Questions like whether the percentage is based on total gross (purse+non-public purse+backend PPV) or just the fight night purse should be openly discussed to avoid misunderstandings later on!

Why should a trainer who has been with the fighter from Jump Street, getting 10% of thousand dollar purses...why shouldn't he still be entitled to 10% of million dollar purses? He sacrificed during the hard times, just like the fighter.
@RagingBabe There is a difference between a trainer, say getting 10% of a boxer’s purse when it’s less than, say, $1.5 -$2.5M, when it’s over that, in my experience, there’s a negotiation for a flat trainer fee.
