Fantastic news! The Scottish Parliament has just passed the Wildlife Management and Muirburn Bill. More than 25 years ago Donald Dewar – Scotland’s first First Minister – described crimes against birds of prey as a ‘national disgrace’. RSPB Scotland has been campaigning for stronger measures to stop the illegal killing of birds of prey for decades, and today’s vote is a critical step in finally tackling the problem of wildlife crime that has blighted parts of our uplands - especially those places associated with driven grouse shooting. Thanks to members of @ScotParl for finally making this a reality. We hope this historic progress in Scotland will now pave the way for similar legislation in the rest of the UK.
@RSPBScotland If malicious manipulation of data can be described as fantastic then you need to take a long hard look in the mirror. Many species and communities will not thank you for today and you know that full well. Good luck with yr next wildfire
@RSPBScotland Excellent . Well done all concerned, however, let’s see how enforcement works out.
@RSPBScotland Excellent news, what a long haul it has been to secure this. We must ensure the licensing authorities use the powers to stamp out illegal activities and poor management.
@RSPBScotland What about the behaviour of RSPB staff? dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…
@RSPBScotland @rugbyandlife RSPB should be campaigning hard for a complete ban on grouse shooting, I’ve never understood why you stand only for the protection of certain birds despite the massive cost to the environment
