It’s hard to believe this guy I was interviewing at some protest a decade ago is now basically the face of the Democratic Party in the United States.

He states it’s real and it is not morally or ethically wrong to take it. I respond with that he admits that he will take the money. He does not correct me. Again, never the issue of a GFM to help someone out; it was how it was all worded and how it was initially denied. He also admits it’s a close friend that started it. So, not a scam like many first reported.

Well, that was out of left field. 😂😂😂 As I’ve already said, it’s much like Trump said when he gave money to Democrats: once you give them money, they owe you. As for people voting Democrat, almost every Native I know (mind you my family, friends, and a large swath of coworkers are Natives) votes Republican and loves Trump. Sure, there are those who vote Democrats, but at the end of the day, they choose whatever path betters the tribe and its people.
The basis for the GFM wasn’t the issue; the timing and the language around the GFM was. He was quiet about it at first, then vague, and now fairly specific. When people questioned it, his supporters said it was a scam and Merrick didn’t know the guy. Merrick states it’s real and the guy who started it is a long-time friend.

Well, at least you’ve clarified in this post that you intend to take the funds being raised on your behalf. This could have been clearly stated when it first was made public, but that was not the approach. There were concerns, rightfully so, when the message behind the GFM implied the mortgage issue was something that had to be done to campaign. “Funds raised here will go toward helping Jake and Nicole protect their family home and relieve the mortgage burden that was taken on during this race.” The blurring of campaign obligation and a general GFM to help a friend confused many. I will repost your comments so people( what few I reach with my account) can read your thoughts on the matter.
