Percent of people in state prisons who have been diagnosed with a mental disorder: 43% Percent of people in state prisons currently receiving therapy or counseling from a professional: 6%
@PrisonPolicy Is the 6% so low because of lack of service providers or are the inmates not accepting the services that are available?
@PrisonPolicy Even lower if you consider how many of those counseling professionals are adequately trained, overworked, and/or burnt out.
@PrisonPolicy Some (or many? Nobody knows or cares?) will be #BrainInjury survivors but negligently misdiagnosed as having only 'mental health disorders'; depends what 'therapy' & counselling is being referred to as to whether they'd be appropriate for brain injury survivors or cause more harm
@PrisonPolicy What do you think of sheriff departments withholding basic humanitarian needs such as water? This happened to me in corrupt Grants Pass Oregon, by the Josephine County Sheriff Department. I believe they unlawfully searched my cell phone as well. I actually did no crime.
