Storms rolled through our area today and our crews have been busy helping homeowners deal with damaged trees and fallen limbs. Just a quick reminder to be careful around storm damaged trees.
For customers enrolled in disease management programs, some fire blight symptoms can resemble diseases you've encountered in previous years. Fire blight is caused by a different pathogen and requires different management strategies.
This bacterial disease has been favored by this spring's weather conditions and is appearing throughout the region. While the symptoms can be alarming, fire blight is a common issue and is not necessarily the result of anything a homeowner did or did not do.
We've seen a noticeable increase in fire blight this season, particularly on crabapples, pears, hawthorns, and other members of the rose family. Many homeowners are noticing blackened leaves, wilted shoots, and branch tips that appear scorched or burned.
