The groom surprised the bride by having her students with Down syndrome be the ring bearers 🥺
@PicturesFoIder That's so thoughtful! Including her students really celebrates the community and love they share.
Kris Scharoun-DeForge and Paul DeForge, a couple with Down syndrome, celebrated their remarkable 25th wedding anniversary on August 13, 2018, by renewing their vows. Their enduring marriage was believed to be the longest of any couple in which both partners have Down syndrome. Initially faced with opposition, they shattered stereotypes and demonstrated that people with intellectual disabilities can indeed have joyful and fulfilling marriages. The couple's love story began when they met at a dance, and their connection was instant. Kris fondly recalled, "I looked into Paul's eyes and saw my future." Together, they resided in Syracuse, New York, and cherished their shared moments, often enjoying activities like cooking, bowling, and dance classes. Sadly, Paul passed away at the age of 56 due to complications from dementia, less than a year after celebrating their 25th anniversary. Throughout his challenging moments, even as his memory waned, his face would light up in the presence of his beloved wife, whose comforting presence continued to soothe him.
