Happy 80th to Rick Barry. Saw his greatness up close in 1962, at Miami practice, when coach Bruce Hale, Rick’s future father-in-law (daughter, Pam) threw me out of the gym. I was not a student, but lived on campus in apt with a friend from HS…
@PeterVecsey1 Rick was a truly great player who never ever committed a foul in his career! Okay, the refs called more than a few on him, but anyone who saw him play and his reactions after a call knows Rick believed every single one of those calls was wrong. He was a true trailblazer, lol.
@PeterVecsey1 I hate to see time slipping through our hands like grains of sand. I can’t believe Brent and Jon’s dad is 80.
@PeterVecsey1 I believe there was a documentary in the works about the '75 title team, hopefully something gets done. Would love to hear any anecdotes or read any pieces you may have on Rick, Peter #DubNation
@PeterVecsey1 He turned into a pretty good color commentator for the NBA on CBS for a few years too.
@PeterVecsey1 Much like Joe Namath, Ric was an incredibly gifted athlete but both were betrayed by knee problems. Barry supposedly could really get up and played above the rim. Namath before his knee issues was extremely fast and could run effectively out of the pocket.
