National Accessibility Week is an important reminder that accessibility matters every day. Our government has taken important steps to make Nova Scotia more accessible by adopting the Built Environment Accessibility Standard, improving accessibility at parks, beaches and public spaces, and investing in more inclusive community spaces across the province. We’ve expanded accessibility training across government and continued work on new standards in education, employment, transportation, and government services as we work toward the goal of an accessible Nova Scotia by 2030. There’s more work ahead, and we’ll keep working to make sure every Nova Scotian can fully participate in their community.

With wildfire seasons becoming more intense and unpredictable, our government is taking action. That’s why we added four fixed-wing water bombers and a co-ordination plane to strengthen our wildfire response across the province. These aircraft build on the investments we’ve already made in helicopters, equipment, and emergency response resources to help protect people, communities, and property. We will continue doing everything we can to keep Nova Scotians safe from wildfires.

Tax season has come to an end and Nova Scotians may have noticed something important, they paid less. That’s because, for the first time ever, a government finally took real steps to lower income taxes in Nova Scotia. ✅ First, we indexed tax credits to inflation. That means the amount you can claim to reduce your taxable income now increases over time protecting your savings instead of letting inflation quietly take more. ✅ And in 2024 also increased the basic personal amount from $8,744 to $11,481. That means every Nova Scotian now pays no provincial income tax on the first $11,481 they earn. ➕ And it doesn’t stop there. This amount is also indexed to inflation. It rose to $11,744 in 2024 and will reach $11,932 in the 2026 tax year. That means this tax relief keeps growing, putting more money back in your pocket year after year. This is real, lasting relief. We know there’s more work to do. Taxes are still too high. But we’re going to keep delivering relief where we can, while growing our economy and creating good jobs. Because the goal is simple: fund the services Nova Scotians rely on like healthcare, education, and roads through a stronger economy driven by industries like fishing, forestry, mining, and energy… Not by taking more from your paycheque. Today, May 28th 2026, marks a monumental day in Canada. On this day twenty-six years ago, the remains of the Unknown Soldier were laid to rest at the National War Memorial in Ottawa. The Royal Canadian Legion was determined to establish a resting place of honour and respect for one soldier, that would represent all. A key decision was to select the Unknown Soldier from the First World War battlefield near Vimy Ridge, symbolizing a defining moment in Canadian history when all four Canadian divisions fought together under Canadian command The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a sacred site of Remembrance, representing all of the servicemen and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice. A few months ago, Nova Scotia’s energy potential was mostly conversation. Today, we are seeing real progress and real investment. Our government has taken step after step to responsibly unlock the opportunities in front of us, guided by science, research, and strong environmental oversight. In December, we launched a $30 million research partnership with Dalhousie University to better understand Nova Scotia’s natural resources and how they can be safely developed. In February, we signed an agreement with Massachusetts to explore exporting clean offshore wind energy. We also introduced the Powering the Economy Act, while the federal government committed to a regional assessment process for offshore oil and natural gas exploration. In March, Hydro-Québec began work assessing offshore wind transmission opportunities in Nova Scotia. We also reached an agreement with Ottawa to speed up approvals for major projects. In April, the Powering the Economy Act officially became law. And now, a Nova Scotia-led company, Inceptio Oil and Gas, has committed more than $210 million toward offshore exploration. This did not happen by accident. Research created confidence. Confidence created investment. Investment is creating momentum. For too long, Nova Scotia said no while opportunity moved elsewhere. We cannot afford to sit on the sidelines anymore. Our government is focused on developing our resources safely, growing our economy, creating good-paying jobs, and building a stronger, more self-sufficient Nova Scotia. It's time to build in this province again.

In the early 1980s, as Canada’s wartime generations aged, the Legion expanded its membership to include families and supporters. This ensured the organization’s mission—to serve Veterans and keep Remembrance alive—would continue for future generations. Membership surpassed 600,000 for the first time. This included 330,000 ordinary (Veteran) and life members and 150,000 associate (family) members. Everywhere they were needed, Canada's Gunners have served. Today is Artillery Day, observed by Canadian Gunners since 1952 and rooted in the establishment of the Royal Artillery on 26 May 1716. For generations, the men and women of The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery have served Canada with distinction: defending our country, supporting our allies, answering the call in war, and contributing to peace and security at home and abroad. The Regiment’s motto, UBIQUE — Everywhere — is not merely a battle honour. It is a testament to a record of service wherever Canada has asked its soldiers to stand. On this Artillery Day, we honour all who have worn the RCA Cap Badge, remember those who gave their lives in service, and celebrate the enduring contribution of Canada’s Gunners. Happy Artillery Day. Nova Scotia is blessed with an abundance of natural resources, and the hardworking people behind those industries help drive our economy forward every day. From farming, fishing, and forestry to mining, energy, and shipbuilding, these industries support families, create good-paying jobs, and keep rural communities strong. For too long, governments said no to developing our natural resources while industries closed and opportunities left Nova Scotia. Those days are over. At a time when Donald Trump’s trade war is creating uncertainty, now is the time to build up our province, strengthen our economy, and become more self-sufficient. Our government is taking action to unlock the full potential of our natural resources safely and responsibly so we can create jobs, grow the economy, and build a stronger future for all Nova Scotians.
