Recently, VP Vance expressed concerns about Iranian mass migration if the US pursued regime change in that country during an episode on the most popular and interesting podcast on the planet, @joerogan’s podcast. But, respectfully, the VP has the causal chain all backward. Nothing has driven Iranians to flee more than 47 years of the Islamic Republic turning Iran into a failed state and bringing everything from economic and environmental devastation to war to its shores. As @navidmohebbi and I write in @WSJopinion: 👇 “Those with concerns about Iranian migration shouldn’t worry only about the day after the Islamic Republic falls. The Islamic Republic is continuing its war on the people of Iran. But Iranians are fighting back. Yesterday in Esfahan, citizens noticed the regime was preparing for a barbaric public execution. Reports circulated that the regime was set to hang three protesters from the January 8/9 uprising. At dawn, hundreds of brave Iranians gathered in the square to protest this medieval brutality and public murder. They jeered and shouted at the executioners. Sadly as the call to prayer played, two young men were hung from cranes. Security forces chased the protesters, firing on them with live ammunition, trying to kill more and more Iranians. The murder of protesters and other political prisoners are often done in prisons. But the regime, fearing the Iranian people will rise against them, is conducting them in public in an attempt to intimidate them into silence. Untold other brave protesters are currently facing a similar fate. Their lives hang in the balance. This is two Irans: the vile and evil Islamic Republic against the brave and heroic people of Iran. Iranians will not back down. They will fight. But they should not have to fight alone. The world must back these brave men and women.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on July 13 that it conducted another wave of strikes against Iranian military targets that Iran used to threaten shipping in the strait. Iran responded to the US strikes by attacking US military bases across Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan on July 14. Iran has repeatedly used force to try to deter vessels from using the alternative traffic separation scheme along Oman’s coast because traffic through this route undermines Iranian efforts to assert full control over traffic in the strait. US officials, including US President Donald Trump, have stated that the current US campaign to degrade Iran’s ability to threaten shipping could last several weeks. It is therefore premature to assess the effects of this campaign. The threshold for Iran to be able to disrupt shipping in the strait remains low, however, given that even individual drone and missile attacks can deter vessels from passing through the strait. Maritime traffic through the strait is dependent on the risk calculations of ship captains and shipping companies, which are generally risk averse.

It’s entirely possible he just had a heart attack. But it’s not a conspiracy theory to suggest something else might be at play. Putin has poisoned and assassinated many of his opponents, and Graham was just in Kyiv where there are certainly FSB agents operating. There should be a full autopsy and tox screen to rule out foul play.

I’m told by a source in South Carolina that Senator Lindsey Graham has dealt with blood pressure issues since his 40s. His father also died of cardiac arrest at age 69. I know the conspiracy theories won’t stop, but sometimes life just happens. Not everything is a conspiracy.
