Sources: Cuonzo Martin and Missouri State are working toward a deal make him the school's next head coach. He's the former coach there, as well as Missouri, Tennessee, and Cal.
Martin spent three seasons at Missouri State, including a 26-9 season in 2010-11. That marked the program’s first-ever regular season Missouri Valley Conference championship and he won Valley Coach of the Year.
@PeteThamel A lot of moves lately for Missouri State. Could be Conference USA could be calling soon.
The expected move is a centerpiece to the university’s Boring2030 initiative in which it aspires to create college basketball’s most boring and difficult to watch offense. “There’s a lot of options, but Cuonzo’s track record speaks for itself,” said Mizz State AD, Kyle Moats. “He’s instituted excruciating slow styles of play in two SEC programs and in the Pac 12. There’s no better man for the job.” Calls to Martin were left unanswered.
@PeteThamel Bring him back!!! @MoStateMBB @MissouriState
@PeteThamel Confirmed 👍 x.com/amaryamary9/st…
@PeteThamel I've been a Mo State fan my whole life (Springfield resident). If true, this is HUGE. Cuonzo's tenure was the last time the Bears were relevant in the Valley, and the last time they had fans in the stands and excitement at games.
