Even if 51% of Americans supported Trump (they don’t; number is lower than that), it is amusing to see a member of the “we’re a republic, not a democracy,” party emphasize what he thinks is majority support for Trump. The GOP says, “we’re a republic, not a democracy,” because the party knows its product is niche, at best, and appeals to a minority of voters (and that minority dwindles by the day). The GOP only opposes democracy until it favors it. There is also the question of: why do most elected Republicans support another Trump presidency? One answer that keeps coming to mind is: they know their product is favored by the minority, and see another Trump term as the means by which to grow their power, even as the minoritarian party. But what these Republicans are overlooking (or, do know, but are indifferent to) is: because retaliation would be a key component of a second Trump presidency, no one—including Republicans who supported him in 24—would be immune to his vengeance. The GOP must be mercy-killed in Nov.; not because I favor one-party rule, but because the GOP, in its current form, cannot be repaired and salvaged. #LeavingMAGA @LeavingMAGA
