Update: A mistrial has been declared in the trial of Calvin Ushery because jurors could not reach a verdict. The suspect's attorney told the jury the September 2022 video of the brutal beating of the elderly Asian man "provokes a lot of emotion" but told them not to direct that against his client.

@MrAndyNgo To a defense attorney, a 'Jury of one's peers', is nothing more than finding jurors of a certain demographic, that holds the same animosity against the victim as the perp has.
@PaxRoma92840831 @MrAndyNgo EXACTLY! Or like in Andy Ngo trial, openly threaten the jury and have nothing done about it.
@PaxRoma92840831 @MrAndyNgo I always felt the whole "jury selection" was a joke. If it's suppose to be a jury of your peers they shouldn't be able to pick and choose. It should 100% be random and whoever gets picked gets picked.
@PaxRoma92840831 @MrAndyNgo Both sides pick the jury. I wonder whether the jury was polled.
@PaxRoma92840831 @MrAndyNgo In our adversarial judicial system, that is his job. The prosecutors job is to punish the guilty, the defense has no such requirement, all his job is is to get an acquittal, while not breaking the law himself. It aint perfect, but I don't know if I have a better idea.
@PaxRoma92840831 @MrAndyNgo Y’know it actually says impartial jury.
@PaxRoma92840831 @MrAndyNgo This could not be better said.
@PaxRoma92840831 @MrAndyNgo Damn well said brother
@PaxRoma92840831 @MrAndyNgo The defense gets to be involved as well. Trust me I know lol
