I asked @CoachGoodale for his response to the faction of the #Rutgers fanbase that has been critical of his performance ... specifically, that the program has become stagnant. Here was his response after two of his wrestlers clinched All-American honors. What are your thoughts?
@PatLanniNJ @CoachGoodale He’s done a very good job in the best conference on the planet. Fan base needs to manage their expectations
@PatLanniNJ @CoachGoodale I'm not even a Rutgers wrestling fan but Damn I'm not sure where that "faction" of fanbase is?? AND not sure that mindset and fanbase go together?!? Suffice to say program is in good hands!
@PatLanniNJ @CoachGoodale Standard response but the performance doesn’t support his comments. He has struggled nightly to produce talent. Over 15 -years you can say Ashnault, Perotti, delvecchio, Shawver. Maybe I am missing someone. Bringing in transfers who were AA before they came to RU don’t count
@PatLanniNJ @CoachGoodale Meanwhile RU hoops fans think Steve Pikiell is the east coast version of John Wooden. Scott is doing just fine.
@PatLanniNJ @CoachGoodale 17 years is a long time to not be in that “top echelon”. He’s got some great recruits coming in but, I’d say he’s overdue.
@PatLanniNJ @CoachGoodale Coach Goodale has been a tremendous coach at Rutgers, look where they’ve come from, wrestling in a 2500 seat gym to now their matches at Rutgers main arena of 8000 and having one of the top attendances in the country, we don’t have a 14,000, 16,000 seat arena we’d have more fans
@PatLanniNJ @CoachGoodale Scott and his staff have poured their hearts and souls into building Rutgers into a program respected in NJ and throughout the nation. The Big Ten is a juggernaut but the Scarlet Knights don’t back down from anyone. He is the man who made RU wrestling!!!
@PatLanniNJ @CoachGoodale @PatLanniNJ what does he mean by “new role”?
@PatLanniNJ @CoachGoodale Continues to do an outstanding job. @CoachGoodale and Company have built a tremendous culture around @RUWrestling. Dual meets are vibrant and energetic with consistent performances at the pinnacle tournament of the sport. #ASOUTH
@PatLanniNJ @CoachGoodale My thoughts are: if whoever those JO's are think they can step up and elevate NJ wrestling and build/grow a winner in the best wrestling conference that's ever existed, they should stop talking and do it. Otherwise, get back in the basement and play air hockey or something.
