What Does Pakistan’s Auto Industry Want From Budget 2026?
The industry says its biggest priority is making cars easier to sell and keeping policies stable.
Manufacturers are asking for lower taxes on EVs and plug-in hybrids, reduced costs for local parts production, and predictable policies. Buyers, meanwhile, want lower prices, more competition, and better value.
With car sales up 51.8% this year, the upcoming budget could play a major role in shaping the future of Pakistan’s auto market.

Hybrid and EV Prices May Increase
Hybrid and electric cars may become more expensive after Budget 2026 27 if the government increases GST.
Right now, EVs have 1% GST and hybrids have 8.5% GST. If these rates move closer to 18%, car prices could go up from July.
Final decision will be clear after the budget announcement.

Jaecoo J7 PHEV Repair Bill Shocks Buyers
A damaged Jaecoo J7 PHEV has reportedly received an authorized dealership repair estimate of around Rs. 7.17 million, nearly 70% of its Rs. 10.5 million ex factory price.
The estimate includes expensive parts like headlights, airbags, seats with airbags, sensors, modules, bonnet and windscreen, showing how costly modern PHEV accident repairs can become.
This case raises important questions for buyers about spare parts prices, availability, insurance support, repair timelines and after sales backup.

GAC Aion ES First Look Review
Sedans Are Back
The GAC Aion ES has entered Pakistan as a fresh all electric sedan in a market where crossovers and SUVs have been dominating every new launch. Built on a dedicated EV platform, the Aion ES brings a proper low slung sedan body style, spacious cabin and practical electric range for buyers who want something different from the usual SUV crowd.
Exterior
The exterior of the Aion ES is one of its strongest points. Since it is based on a proper EV platform, the front end gets a sleek nose down design instead of the typical long bonnet look of petrol sedans. The front fascia has a sharp character line that gives it a beak like appearance, while the LED projector headlights and split DRLs add a premium and slightly sporty touch.
The overall design feels clean and modern. There is no unnecessary plastic cladding, which is a relief in today’s crossover heavy market. The side profile is smooth with a strong character line running from the headlight to the rear pillar, along with flush style door handles and 17 inch alloy wheels. The wheels look decent, but a darker metallic finish could have made the exterior look even more premium.
At the rear, the Aion ES gets a continuous LED light bar, clean badging and a pronounced rear diffuser. The design is not overdone and gives the car a modern EV identity.
Space and Practicality
This is where the Aion ES really starts to make sense. It is a proper D segment sedan with a 4.8 meter overall length and 2.7 meter wheelbase. Because of the EV layout, the cabin space is maximized really well. The rear seat offers excellent knee room, legroom and good visibility, making it a strong option for families as well as buyers who prefer chauffeur driven comfort.
The boot offers more than 400 liters of space, which is practical for daily use. The surprising part is the availability of a full size spare wheel, something many EVs usually miss.
Interior
The interior follows a simple and functional approach. The cabin gets dark grey tones, piano black touches and a mix of textures that try to give it a premium feel without going overboard.
One interesting thing is the use of analog gauges. In a time when almost every new EV is shifting towards digital screens, the Aion ES brings back proper dials with a digital MID in the center. It gives the cabin an old school yet refreshing feel.
The center console gets touch sensitive dual zone climate controls, a knob style gear selector, electronic parking brake, auto hold and different drive modes including Sport, Eco and Normal. However, the 8 inch infotainment screen feels small compared to modern EV standards. It does the job, but in this segment and price bracket, a larger screen would have suited the cabin better.
Features and Safety
The Aion ES comes with practical features like rear AC vents, illuminated USB ports, rearview camera with dynamic guidelines and one pedal driving mode. On the safety side, it offers six airbags, traction control and other essential safety features.
It may not be loaded with flashy tech like some modern EVs, but it covers the important basics well.
Power, Battery and Range
The Aion ES is powered by a 53.7 kWh battery paired with a front wheel drive motor producing 135 hp and 225 Nm of torque. The company claimed range is 442 km on a single charge.
The power figures are not aggressive, but they are enough for daily city usage and relaxed highway cruising. With instant EV torque, it should feel responsive in regular driving conditions. The battery uses GAC’s Magazine Technology, which the company claims is designed for better safety against puncture and thermal issues.
Drive and Comfort
The Aion ES is not trying to be a performance EV. Its main focus is comfort, space and efficiency. The 17 inch wheels with comfort focused tyres should help with ride quality, while the long wheelbase should make it stable and comfortable for family use.
The rear seat experience is clearly one of its biggest strengths. Good legroom, wide opening doors, rear vents and a roomy cabin make it a strong sedan for people who prioritize comfort over aggressive performance.
Conclusion
The GAC Aion ES is a refreshing addition to Pakistan’s EV market. It proves that every new electric car does not have to be a crossover. With its sleek sedan design, spacious cabin, practical boot, claimed 442 km range and clean EV character, it stands out in a market full of similar looking SUVs.
It is not perfect. The infotainment screen feels small, the boot is manual and the exterior wheels could have looked more premium. But as an all electric sedan, the Aion ES brings something different to the table.
For buyers looking for a spacious, efficient and modern electric sedan, the GAC Aion ES is definitely worth considering.
Hybrid and electric cars may get more expensive in the upcoming 2026–27 federal budget.
Reports suggest EV and hybrid tax relief is under review as Pakistan faces pressure to reduce exemptions and move toward a more uniform sales tax system.
If approved, this could directly impact prices of EVs, plug in hybrids and popular hybrid models in Pakistan, making the upcoming budget a key moment for buyers planning a cleaner mobility upgrade.
Fake Plates, Real Trouble!
Lahore Traffic Police has started a fresh crackdown against fake, non standard and unauthorized number plates.
Vehicles without plates, altered plates, illegal green government style plates, blue beacon lights or concealed registration details can now face strict action, including criminal cases.
The legend is making a comeback.
Mitsubishi has confirmed the return of the Pajero with a global debut planned for autumn 2026. Built on a Triton based ladder frame, the new Pajero is expected to return as a proper off road SUV, not just another soft crossover.
